Webster Gets New Software, Insurance

NORTH WEBSTER – Processing the town’s general ledger, budget, payroll and sewer billing will become more efficient with the purchase of new software.

The town council approved the purchase of the Computrain software at Tuesday evening's meeting. Cost of the software package is $9,910. The cost includes training, maintenance and data conversion.

American Community Insurance, administered by Brian Tucker, of Milford Insurance, has been selected as the town’s new insurance carrier. The town is in the process of setting up a Health Savings Account and will choose between Lake City Bank and Farmers State Bank to hold the account.

After the presentation, the council approved the $750 payment to KDI.

Utilities Superintendent Dennis Reafsnyder requested approximately $4,500 to cover additional curb and alley paving costs. Niblock paving, of Bristol, received a contract to pave 14 streets and alleys for $61,746. That work is currently under way.

During the paving project, Reafsnyder saw a need for additional curb and alley work, which the council approved. The paving project should be completed by next week, Reafsnyder said. Striping should be completed before the Mermaid Festival in June.

Reafsnyder reported that there is now an area at the wastewater treatment plant for North Webster residents to dispose of leaves and grass clippings.

The town received two bids on the old street sweeper. Winning bid was $525 by Hammond Excavating, North Webster.

The North Webster Park Board is fully staffed and all members are sworn in. Members are Tim Hine, president; Lydia Clark, secretary; and members Steve Bryant and Mark Hubbs. All are North Webster residents.

The council heard about a tree problem at the North Webster Town Park. There are a number of dead limbs and the park board is getting estimates on having the trees trimmed.

The park board also is working on lease agreements with the Dixie excursion boat and Lakeview Restaurant.

Town Marshal Greg Church reported his department provided 684.25 officer hours, drove 262.3 miles and burned 3,076 gallons of fuel.

The council approved a transfer of $1,975 from the rainy day fund to pay for repairs to the town’s decorative lighting and approved a $60 membership payment to the North Webster/Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce.

Town Clerk Betsy Luce received approval to attend a State Board of Accounts seminar June 15-17 in Indianapolis. Cost of the seminar is $75, plus meals and lodging.

Town council members are Jon Sroufe, Travis Marsh and Jane Shepherd. The next council meeting is June 14.
