Limit Government Access to Personal Computers Without Probable Cause

The Senate began consideration of S. 1510, to deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and around the world, to enhance law enforcement investigatory tools, and for other purposes.

Rejected: By a vote of 83 yeas to 13 nays, the Senate agreed to TABLE the Feingold Amendment No. 1899, to make amendments to the provision relating to interception of computer trespasser communications.

We opposed the motion to table the amendment because it is necessary to limit the sweeping powers this bill grants law enforcement agencies to tap and monitor computer communications without an individual's knowledge and without establishing any probable cause of unlawful activities.
